Environmental Sustainability Through Green Printing Services - QuantumDigital

Committed to Environmental Stewardship

At QuantumDigital, we're committed to doing our part to reduce our environmental footprint and conserve vital natural resources. Not only do we personally hold ourselves accountable to practice the highest standards of environmental stewardship, we've also taken the necessary steps to become "chain of custody" certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).

The FSC is an independent, non-profit organization comprised of members from environmental and social groups, the forestry and timber industry, and other related conservation associations from around the world. The goal of this organization is to encourage and promote responsible forest management. The principles and standards set forth by the FSC not only help to protect and respect the environment, but local economies and social structures as well.

The chain of custody certification examines the production, processing and distribution of wood products, from harvesting of the trees all the way to the end user. Each element in the entire process — from the forest selected to the pulpmill, papermill, distributor, printer and so on — must follow the standards and practices designated by the FSC in order for the finished product to carry the FSC label.

The certification process involves having an independent, FSC accredited, third-party auditor examine a vendor's policies and practices, and in QuantumDigital's case, trace the paper's source.

Ways We Conserve

Never has there been a greater corporate focus on protecting the environment while fostering economic growth. The good news is, many technologies and services have emerged that enable companies to do both.

At QuantumDigital, we choose the most environmentally sustainable products for our direct marketing services. We start by using Xerox iGen3™ digital presses for all our printing. In addition to superior output, the Xerox iGen3™ offers the following benefits:

  • 97% of its components are recyclable or re-manufacturable
  • More than 80%, by weight, of the waste generated by the Xerox iGen3™ can be returned, reused or recycled
  • Dry inks used by digital presses are non-toxic and have closed containers with a transfer efficiency rate of nearly 100%

Why on-demand digital printing?

Compared to offset printing, on-demand digital printing uses far less paper and chemicals because you print only what you need, when you need it. So there’s no storage required and no outdated materials to dispose of, so fewer trees are sacrificed in the process.

Sustainable forests, high-quality paper

We rely on paper supplies from NewPage, North America's largest producer of coated papers. NewPage offers a wide range of versatile, high-quality papers that meet diverse needs. NewPage follows the standards set forth by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® to ensure raw materials are obtained from sustainable forests and that delicate habitats remain untouched.

NewPage has made a three-year, multimillion dollar commitment to the WRI (World Resources Institute) to fully fund Project POTICO (Palm Oil, Timber, Carbon Offsets). Through Project POTICO, up to 1,250,000 acres of tropical forest land in Indonesia will be protected from clear-cutting and sustainably managed according to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines, and a corresponding amount of degraded lands converted into oil palm plantations. QuantumDigital is proud to have NewPage as a supplier for their product quality, commitment to the environment and their desire to preserve precious natural resources.

What else?

In addition to our printing processes and paper supplies, we also practice good environmental stewardship by recycling all our paper products internally. Want to know more about our environmental standards? Contact us.
