Austin, Texas (March 4, 2014) – Ballet Austin Guild is pleased to announce a special Platinum Celebration of 20 years of its annual Women On Their Toes spring luncheon fundraiser, benefiting Ballet Austin. The 2014 anniversary event will take place on April 17 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Austin, Texas.

Ballet Austin Guild began presenting a Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show in 1984 to raise funds to benefit Ballet Austin. As the signature fundraiser for each season, the Guild began to honor outstanding volunteers from Austin-area nonprofits in 1994 and the name changed from Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show to Women On Their Toes. The event has attracted nationally recognized keynote speakers, and every so often a fashion show emerges highlighting local Austin style.

More than 180 women and men have been honored by Ballet Austin Guild as outstanding volunteers throughout the last twenty years. This year, the Guild will look back over that time and present a tribute to honorees from previous years.

In the past, this event has raised more than a half million dollars cumulatively, benefiting Ballet Austin, one of Austin’s leaders in performance art. This allows Ballet Austin to not only continue presenting annual seasons of dance that often include national and international productions, but also to provide scholarships to dance students, and present community access and educational programs to 35,000 central Texas residents.

To help celebrate its 20th anniversary year, the 2014 Women On Their Toes will feature a keynote address from Rachel Moore, CEO of American Ballet Theatre (ABT), who will introduce and speak about Project Plié, an initiative to increase ethnic and racial diversity in ballet. Ballet Austin is honored to be a company partner in this initiative.

“For twenty years, Ballet Austin Guild has hosted Women On Their Toes to recognize and celebrate the significant contribution volunteers have made to our community,” said Betty Oltorf, President, Ballet Austin Guild. “The event has provided a forum to showcase the work these outstanding volunteers do and the organizations for which they work. The stories of their experiences have greatly moved us, and have encouraged us in our efforts to contribute our time and energy to Ballet Austin.”
